Here are 3 things you can do today to improve the way you recruit.
Look beyond your current practices
One of the things we often hear when we talk to people who are responsible for recruiting is comments such as ‘we always do it like that’ or ‘that’s the only approach we know and are comfortable with’.
I would encourage you to look beyond your current recruiting methods. You may be missing out on genuine talent because they don’t fit into your current methods. Given that many candidates now have two, three or four career changes in their working life you may need to expand some of the criteria that you use to filter candidates.
The value of the right remuneration
When a candidate presents their pay expectations the first reaction is to try and negotiate this request down. Many hiring managers are working with remuneration bands that are more than likely a little out of date, inaccurate and reflect averages across roles and industries.
The reality is when you recruit you are not looking for the average person. You are actually looking for a candidate that can bring real value to your business.
My advice would always be look at the real potential this candidate can bring and match this with the right remuneration.
Get the steps right
I know we work in a world where everything has become faster. Business cycles are now faster. Desired turnaround times are now quicker. And, recruiting is no different. We want to fill the role yesterday. However, when we rush this process or skip steps in the process we end up with a candidate that is not quite right and ultimately costs you productivity, costs and grief.
Make sure you take the time to get the job description right, give yourself enough time to interview with purpose and take some time to really look at your final candidates.
