There are many things you should expect from your recruiter. Here are three that should be near the top of the list. The recruiter you initially meet should conduct the search and present the candidates to you. They should have the ability to find the right candidate and they should only present qualified candidates that meet the Job Brief.
The recruiter you initially meet should conduct the search and present the candidates to you
Your initial meetings with your recruiter are critical to ensure you find the best candidate for your position. During these initial meetings you will share as much as you can about the role, your business and who you are looking for. A good recruiter will also help you in this process by going beyond the job description into areas such as the job brief and demonstrated experience.
An experienced recruiter, especially one with lots of prior business experience, will be able to help you in a way which is economical with your time. It is therefore important for the recruiter to manage not only the initial meetings but also conduct the search and present the candidates to you. To not take this approach means the quality of the final candidates can be compromised.
They should have the ability to find the right candidate
Your recruiter should have the ability to find the right candidate. There are many questions you can ask to ensure you have the right recruiter. Here are three that we find most helpful.
Firstly, ask them how they find their candidates. Are they from within their own network, referrals or Seek. These are important questions as the quality varies greatly from one source to the next.
Secondly, ask how many candidates they have had to replace for a client because the candidate didn’t work out. This is a vital question because this answer goes a long way to measuring the recruiter’s due diligence and their ability to find the right candidate.
Thirdly, ask them about their experience not only in recruitment but actually working in these roles or managing people in these roles. A recruiter who has done more than just recruitment is going to be able to offer you a greater insight. They can help you build the job brief and find the right candidate.
They should only present qualified candidates that meet the job brief
If the recruiter has managed the whole process they should only need to present a few candidates to you. If they are presenting more than a few then something has gone wrong in the process. Often the problem lies in a weak job brief.
You should expect a lot from your recruiter. The person you meet should conduct the search and present the candidates to you. They should have the ability to find the right candidate and they should only present qualified candidates that meet the job brief.
